Dental Veneers Can Correct Countless Smile Flaws

March 17, 2025

Have you always wanted a gorgeous smile that lights up a room? Dental veneers can transform your smile and boost your self-confidence by correcting several cosmetic issues, including crooked or discolored teeth. Veneers also can fill in gaps and protect your teeth from decay or infection.

Veneers can provide the smile you’re dreaming of while preserving your teeth. At Greenwich Dentistry, Sean Sutton, DDS, and Mark Sutton, DDS customize veneers to fit your mouth and match your natural teeth.

Veneers explained

Porcelain veneers are bonded to your natural teeth. They’re flexible and fit the surface of your teeth perfectly.

Veneers can be a conservative solution to several imperfections that could wreck your smile. Here are some benefits of veneers:

  • Provide a natural-looking solution
  • Restore frail teeth
  • Resist stains
  • Lightens darker teeth
  • Strengthens and protects natural teeth
  • Minimal gum irritation
  • Corrects minor alignment problems

What to expect from a veneer treatment

During your first visit, our dental specialist reviews your goals and determines whether your mouth will respond well to veneers. The doctor then determines which veneer will best suit your ideal smile and provide you with a temporary veneer to protect your teeth.

Our specialist takes an impression of your teeth and sends the mold to a dental lab where porcelain veneers are carved out by a computer. The veneer bakes in an oven-like device that hardens the material to match the natural shade of your teeth.

The second appointment consists of cleaning the veneers, which prevents bacteria from becoming trapped under them. We then adjust your veneers to fit your mouth and look natural.

The bonding cement is applied and hardens quickly. Ultraviolet light helps speed up the process. Our doctor then removes excess cement and checks your bite to make sure the veneer fits appropriately over your other teeth.

To extend the life of your veneers, keep regular checkup appointments. Typically, veneers can last up to 15 years.

After the procedure

Once the veneers are cemented to your teeth, you can live life as usual. There are no side effects or downtime. Extra cement should wear away with regular brushing and flossing.

Here are tips for keeping your veneers intact:

  • Avoid chewing hard objects
  • Avoid opening things with your teeth
  • Avoid teeth grinding
  • Use a mouthguard when playing sports
