5 Smile Flaws Easily Remedied by Veneers

Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you. If you have teeth that are discolored, gapped, or not properly aligned, you may be more likely to hide your smile.

At Greenwich Dentistry, experienced dentists Sean Sutton, DDS, and Mark Sutton, DDS, offer veneers, which can correct a range of smile imperfections without extensive dental work.

What can veneers do?

Dental veneers are thin, tooth-colored shells that are bonded securely to the fronts of your teeth. Veneers can cover imperfections and also strengthen the teeth they’re attached to. Veneers are a long-term restoration solution for many people who want to improve their smiles and oral health without a lot of hassle.

Our team can determine if you’re a candidate for veneers after a comprehensive dental exam and a discussion of your smile goals. Veneers can do a number of things to restore a smile, such as the following:

1. Hide cracks, chips, and breaks

Tooth damage, such as cracks and chips, can occur when you eat hard foods, grind your teeth in your sleep, or suffer trauma.

Porcelain veneers are an ideal way to quickly restore cracked or broken teeth. Dental veneers bond to the fronts of your teeth, instantly strengthening and covering the affected teeth.

2. Transform discolored teeth

Sparkling white teeth make a great first impression. But maintaining tooth whiteness may be difficult due to diet, lifestyle, and the natural aging process.

Teeth can become discolored and appear yellow or even gray after years of drinking coffee or wine or smoking. Furthermore, as you age, the natural enamel on the fronts of your teeth can wear away and allow the brown dentin inside your teeth to show through.

Putting veneers on your teeth can give you a bright white smile again.

3. Close gaps

Empty spaces in your teeth aren’t just an aesthetic concern. Gapped teeth can affect your bite and impact your oral health.

Our team can place veneers on your natural teeth to fill in any gaps and enhance the appearance of your smile.

4. Even out your smile

With age comes natural wear and tear on teeth, which can give you an uneven smile. Over time, teeth can wear down differently, which can make some teeth larger or smaller than others.

If your teeth are naturally uneven, or if you have irregularities in the shapes and sizes of your teeth, veneers can cover them to give you a uniform smile.

5. Improve the appearance of crooked teeth

If your teeth are slightly crooked, you may be able to use veneers to fix the appearance of your teeth instead of using braces or Invisalign®.

We can place veneers on your teeth, so your teeth can look straight and not crooked.

What to expect during your veneer appointment

First, we take an impression, or a mold of your teeth, so we can get a model of your mouth. Then we send the mold to a dental lab, which creates your custom veneers.

When your veneers are ready, you come back to our office. Then we remove a small amount of enamel so your veneers don’t stick out and so they can bond securely to your teeth. Then we bond your veneers to your teeth. Once in place, you care for them just like you do your natural teeth.
